Fact Checking: Something We All Need To Do More Often.

How often do you “Forward” or “Re-Post” something you see on line without checking to make sure the information is valid?  While we live in a country where “Free Speech” is protected by the Constitution, it also means that misinformation can spread at an exponential rate because there are no real checks to control it. I often wonder what the founding fathers would think of this country and what has become accepted practice by citizens, corporations, lawyers and politicians in the name of “Free Speech.”

Upgraded AMSOIL Powersports Product Guides Offer Improved Coverage

April 1, 2019 – Announcement

The product guides at amsoil.com allow you quick, accurate product recommendations for your vehicles and equipment. To help ensure you have a great experience at amsoil.com, we recently made a large investment in expanding the Powersports product guides to provide recommendations for more applications.

The AMSOIL Powersports product guides make up one of just two such guides in the industry. Most lubricant and filter companies don’t offer a powersports product guide due to the increased cost and sheer amount of work required. As part of our commitment to Dealers and Customers, AMSOIL made a significant investment in customized data and programming to maintain a product guide that covers the thousands of different makes and models of powersports applications. Our improved Powersports product guides now provide recommendations for 225 different equipment brands and nearly 180,000 different components, including…

The Powersports product guides deliver improved coverage for several makes of equipment. For example, we now offer recommendations for most Honda motorcycles. While the expansive nature of the powersports industry makes it nearly impossible to cover every single make and model of equipment, these improvements enhance our coverage, and we’ll continue to work on closing the few gaps that remain.

In addition to lubricant recommendations, the Powersports product guides offer a more user-friendly interface than the only other guide in the industry. And ours are the only powersports guides to integrate filters, reducing the amount of input required of the user, improving the user experience.

Visit amsoil.com and familiarize yourself with the AMSOIL Powersports product guides.

Want To Have Some Fun With Auto Quizzes?

How Stuff Works is an interesting site that answers all types of questions.

In my younger days I was admonished numerous times, “Don’t Ask Stupid Questions.” Then I got a boss who loved to say, “There Is No Such Thing As A Stupid Question, Only Stupid Mistakes.” While I didn’t think much of him as a boss, I took his saying to heart.

The How Stuff Works site will answer questions you didn’t even know to ask. Some you will wonder why they were asked but others you may find really interesting. The following is the link to the quiz section on Cars, Trucks & Engines. Check it out. You may find it interesting.

Afterwards, check out some of the other sections of the site. You never know, it may prevent a “Stupid Question / Mistake.”

Worlds Largest Inline Gasoline Engine

Several weeks ago I posted a link to the GMC V-12 Engine, kind of an interesting side note on engine history. Yesterday Engine Labs posted another article on an old, virtually forgotten engine, the Sterling TCG-8 Viking II engine. This was an inline, 8 cylinder, 4-stroke engine with an 8 inch bore and a 9 inch stroke that produced 600 HP at 1,200 RPM’s on gasoline, lots of it. To read the Engine Labs article and see a video of it running, click here.

GMC V-12 Engine

While I grew up in the 50’s and into the Muscle Car era, I never heard of any American Made V-12 engines. (I was more into aircraft than cars.) GM however did build some V-12 industrial / heavy truck engines. If you’d like to read a short article, check out this Engine Labs article. (You can also follow some additional links from there.)

Why Your Marine Lower Unit Needs Regular Service

Though your marine motor gets all the attention, your boat isn’t going anywhere without the lower unit. Its combination of gears, bearings and other components turn horsepower into movement. Lower units are resilient and can last for years – provided you service them annually. Here, we reveal the inner workings of a marine lower unit and show the common suffering points.
