FTC Settles with BMW-MINI over Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act Violation
The Magnuson-Moss Act (enacted in 1975) states that a manufacturer cannot void a warranty (or threaten to void the warranty) if the consumer goes elsewhere for parts or service. BMW got caught.
