Why Your Marine Lower Unit Needs Regular Service
Though your marine motor gets all the attention, your boat isn’t going anywhere without the lower unit. Its combination of gears, bearings and other components turn horsepower into movement. Lower units are resilient and can last for years – provided you service them annually. Here, we reveal the inner workings of a marine lower unit and show the common suffering points.

Was reading the Obituaries last night (something people tend to do when they get to be my age) and spotted one for William L. Alden of Falmouth, MA. Since Falmouth isn’t an area normally covered in my paper I started reading and was surprised to learn of his accomplishments. Like Al Amatuzio, the founder of AMSOIL, Mr. Alden saw future needs and developed systems to meet them. In the 1960’s he developed staRRCAR (Self Transport Road and Rail Car), a system of electric vehicles that could be driven on the road or onto a rail system if going longer distances. It was installed in Morgantown, West Virginia and for over 44 years has carried over 15,000 passengers per day without a single accident. Imagine what a system like this could do for commuters, especially if updated to modern technology.
Mr. Alden’s entry on Wikipedia can be found here and a good article on the staRRCAR system is on THE VERGE or just do a Google Search on staRRCAR.

AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil Saves Race Engine
AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil Saves Snowmobile Race Engine From Intense Heat After Engine Looses Coolant.
A $1.00 clamp failed allowing the coolant to pump out and the engine to overheat. How hot did it get. It melted the cover on the power valves, the O-Rings that separate the cylinders from the heads and several other gaskets inside the engine. Damage to the engine, virtually none. Will the 2-Stroke Oil you use in your sled provide that kind of protection. If not, maybe you should consider AMSOIL. Drop us a note at ceo@slsassoc.com for pricing information. We think you will be pleasantly surprised.
The following link provides the full story plus a short video showing the damage.
